FAMILIES flocked to the Koombana North foreshore over the weekend to enjoy the fine weather and facilities at the brand new development.
Despite only the initial works being completed, the new foreshore has already proven itself a success, with better access to the ski beach, pathway links for pedestrians and cyclists, grassed areas, barbecues, picnic tables, seating and viewing platforms providing an exciting starting point for the waterfront development.
“It is terrific for residents and visitors and it is adding to the socialisation of these previously empty plots of land,” Mayor Gary Brennan said.
“It is very encouraging and because it is early days it will only get better.”
Bunbury MLA John Castrilli, Mr Brennan and Landcorp regional manager Matthew Why-te cut the ribbon on the development on Friday.
Mr Brennan said the CBD was now seamlessly connected to a magnificent and unique waterfront, with pedestrian and cycle paths following the water’s edge right through from the new Koombana North precinct to the Marlston Waterfront area and on to the Marlston Hill residential precinct.
He said the project was part of a new era for Bunbury and the waterfront sat comfortably with the best in the world.
Mr Castrilli said the improvements were part of a $20.3 million state government commitment to develop Koombana North and future Marlston North precincts.
