EVERY good fisherman has a story about the one that got away.
But for one Cowaramup man, who has asked to remain anonymous, the story of how he caught a 1.8 metre bull shark in the Collie River earlier this month is making waves across the region.
In an interview with Perth radio station 6PR, the fisherman said he went fishing for sharks in the river after friends reported catching them previously.
“One of my mates had a few hook ups in the past few weeks so I thought I would go down and have a go,” the fisherman said.
“Once it took the hook it was jumping out of the water and 20 minutes later we had it on the shore.
“At first I wasn’t sure what it was but by the time I got it out of the water I knew what it was.”
The recreational fisherman admitted to being in favour of the controversial state government shark cull and to having caught sharks in the past.
“People definitely know they are out there [in the Collie River] and I was pretty stoked about the catch,” he said.
“We dragged it up on the bank, chopped its fins and head off and we ate it.”
The photo of the shark on the shore in Eaton was posted on Facebook on Saturday and has had more than 500 comments.
