SOUTH WEST detectives are seeking to identify a man whom they believe can help with their inquiries into recording devices found in public toilets in Waroona.
On Sunday, April 6, shortly after midday a cleaner located the devices in two female public toilet cubicles at the Forrest Highway rest bays.
The filming devices were affixed inside the cubicles and police believe they were recording those using the toilets.
South West Detectives officer-in-charge senior sergeant Jon Munday said police believe the camera were placed in the toilet in the early hours of Sunday morning.
"The items have been seized and sent to our computer crime section," he said.
"It appears there has been a number of hours of footage recorded and there does not appear to be any audio.
"This type of activity is abhorrent - anyone who goes to a public toilet block doesn't expect to have their activities from inside the cubicle recorded.
"It is imperative that we catch this person as soon as possible."
Senior sergeant Munday said the devices were well concealed and were modified.
"Whoever has installed these devices does have a knowledge of electronics," he said.
Under the Surveillance Devices Act individuals are forbidden from producing visual or audio recordings of others without their consent which carries a penalty of a $5000 fine or 12 months imprisonment.
"If this footage does capture children and they are deemed to be indecent images then the offence will carry a seven year imprisonment term as the maximum penalty," Senior sergeant Munday said.
Police believe they have successfully apprehended all the footage and would like to speak to the man pictured to assist with their investigation into the matter.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
