THE Beards were greeted by many fuzzy fans on Friday as they performed at Settlers Tavern, Margaret River.
Audience members celebrated the show by sporting beards of various colours and lengths. Whether real or drawn on, or sported by man or woman, beards definitely dominated the crowd.
“You are the most bearded crowd ever!” the band declared.
The Beards launched into songs such as You Should Consider Having Sex with a Bearded Man, I'm in the Mood... For Beards, and All the Bearded Ladies.
Much dancing, high fiving and beard-stroking was involved.
The support act, Franky Walnut, was also quick to make friends with the crowd through his guitar/harmonica skills and a few alter egos.
At one stage, the country-comedy musician donned a hoody to discuss the dilemma of Australian hip-hop. Between songs, he discssed random topics including TV personality Bert Newton. With humour, he corrected people who had shouted out “Yeah! Burke’s Backyard!” and continued to explain why Bert Newton was so great.
“Oh you want to talk more about Bert Newton? That’s my favourite topic!” he said.
Franky Walnut had already won the crowd over by the time he did ‘an impersonation of Bob Dylan impersonating AC/DC’, covering You Shook Me All Night Long.
The Beards have been touring Australia following the release of their fourth album, The Beard Album, in May. They will visit more than 40 venues.
