BUNBURY businesses at Centrepoint Shopping Centre have reported a “donation bandit” who they say has targeted tins on their counters this week.
On Thursday morning a man stole a charity tin from Bunbury Centrepoint News.
Staff member Jess Davis said the man came to the store about 9am and asked for a lottery ticket.
She said he kept rummaging through his bag while he was being served.
Not long after he left they noticed their donation tin for Princess Margaret Hospital was gone.
Security cameras showed the man had cut the chain around the tin while employee’s backs were turned and threw his jacket over it before leaving the store.
Today, Boost Juice employees told the Bunbury Mail that they had been victims of the same crime between 10.15am and 11.30am today.
The tin was collecting money for the Give Me 5 for Kids Foundation, which improves the lives of sick children at Princess Margaret Hospital.
When the security vision was compared to the newsagency footage, Miss David said they were “99.9 per cent sure” it was the same man, but police could not confirm this.
Miss Davis said she and her fellow staff members were disgusted that someone could sink so low to steal from sick children.
“It’s horrible because it’s our responsibility to look after those donations so they can be passed to the hospital, and now they are gone,” she said.
“This man needs to be caught.”
Another business in the centre had its tip jar emptied by a customer about lunchtime today.
Bunbury Police could not confirm any details of their investigations.
