STUDENTS in the South West now have a clear learning pathway with an articulation agreement being signed between two major Bunbury education providers.
The leaders of the two institutes met on Monday to sign the agreement which sees Edith Cowan University acknowledging and crediting students for courses they have completed at the South West Institute of Technology.
“The signing of the articulation agreement formally recognises a process that has been in place for a number of years,” South West Institute of Technology managing director Duncan Anderson said.
“It demonstrates to students that once they have finished courses at the institute they can progress to the university and there is a real commitment to their education.
“An example would be a nursing student could complete a preparation for nursing course at Manea Senior College then an enrolled nursing course at the institute before entering a registered nursing course at the university.”
Edith Cowan University South West campus Dean Lynette Farrell said she hoped the agreement would allow students to better plan their careers.
“It is important for us to show students that the qualifications they gain at the institute will be recognised for entrance or advanced standing for a degree,” she said.
“We have always looked at students with Institute qualifications on a case by case basis but this agreement makes it official.
“The focus of our campus is about accessibility in the region and providing as many students as possible with the opportunity to study at university.”
