With Busselton’s win over Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault and Collie’s loss to Carey Park, the top five is now set in stone.
Although it seems as though positions among the top five teams are also set, there is still plenty of ways that teams could still jostle positions around.
There is still a lot of interest in the remaining rounds and with Bunbury playing Eaton along with Carey Park playing Busselton in the final round games are starting to heat up.
After taking out two of their top three counterparts in the past fortnight, it’s safe to say that South Bunbury is the best team in the league heading into finals.
With games against Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault and Augusta-Margaret River to come it seems as though South Bunbury will finish atop the table and earn a week off in the first round of the finals.
It’s hard to see any side beating the Tigers at this point, but anything is possible when it comes to finals.
Despite being fourth on the ladder, it’s clear that Carey Park has the most depth in their team lists.
With their reserves sitting on top of the table, there are plenty of names that Carey Park’s league team can call on if needed.
Sam Browne has received awards in his first two league games after playing in the reserves all season and Michael McGarry continues to kick goals in the league side.
Andrew Rake, Glen Garlett, Dylan Garlett, Chris McMillan, Shannon Spadaccini and plenty of others can all be counted on to fill gaps in the league side if the time comes.
Augusta-Margaret River let a chance to cause an upset go begging when they lost to Harvey on Sunday.
Harvey was without star forward Greg Sanders and AMR missed a golden opportunity to capitalise.
Credit must go to the Bulls on this one though.
Yes, they were expected to win the game.
But winning without Greg Sanders is a much larger accomplishment.
AMR will face top five teams Busselton and South Bunbury in their last two games.
After slipping from the top of the table in recent weeks, it’s hard to predict just where Bunbury is at heading into the finals.
Their loss to South Bunbury in round 15 gave followers the hint that maybe Bunbury ran its race too early this season and their demolishment of Donnybrook doesn’t provide any further insight.
It is always impressive to keep a side to one goal for the game, but Donnybrook is seriously out of sorts this season and Bunbury’s big win doesn’t prove much.
The final two rounds of the home-and-away season will give us a better judgement on Bunbury with games against Collie and Eaton to come.
