BUNBURY Mail readers have captured pictures of a Transbunbury bus on fire at Eaton Fair Shopping Centre on Tuesday afternoon.
A spokesman for South West Coachlines confirmed no passengers were on the bus at the time of the fire.
Bunbury Career Fire and Rescue Service and Eaton-Australind Fire and Rescue Service were in attendance.
Eaton-Australind Fire and Rescue Service Captain Matt Stoltenbarg said the fire was contained to the engine bay of the bus.
"The driver did a sterling job and his actions saved the bus," Captain Stoltenbarg said.
"He jumped straight out of the bus with a fire extinguisher and stopped the fire spreading into the passenger area."
Witness Ben told the Bunbury Mail he was on his way home about 3pm when he saw the bus on fire.
"Underneath the back of the bus where the fuel tank is there was a little bit of flame coming out but as the driver slowed down near the bus stop the fire looked to get bigger," he said.
"I called 000 and quite a few firetrucks came from Australind, Eaton and Bunbury.
"The driver was uninjured."
