CHOOSE RESPECT: Bunbury sporting clubs will continue to push for respect thanks to a grant from the WA Department of Sport and Recreation.
Bunbury Respect Inc chairman Peter Rigden said the grant of $5000 will support sports clubs and association who want to work to run forums and promote Choose Respect within their club.
“Sporting clubs provide major benefits to the community and we want to support them by providing practical tools and guidelines they can use,” he said.
“We feel Bunbury Respect Inc is in a unique position to be able to help clubs provide a fun, safe culture for everyone to enjoy playing sport in.
Mr Rigden said Choose Respect can also be used to discourage bullying and promote more cohesiveness within clubs.
“This grant will enable Bunbury Respect Inc to work with more sports clubs wanting to adopt Choose Respect and assist them to prevent things like ugly parent’s or coach syndrome,” he said.
Among those to adopt Choose Respect are the South Bunbury Football Club, Bunbury and Districts Hockey Association, Bunbury Basketball Association, Bunbury Runners Club, Country Coastal Junior Soccer Associa-tion, Bunbury PCYC and Froza Dragon Boating.
South Bunbury Football Club manager Larry Gleeson said adopting Choose Respect was a simple process.
“It didn’t take hours of training – we worked with Bunbury Respect Inc to implement Choose Respect in a way that would be effective for our Club,” he said.
“We wanted to make sure our club was working to become more modern, forward thinking and inclusive and Choose Respect helped us to achieve this.”
