KOOMBANA Bay and the Leschenault Inlet became a colourful spectacle of boats when Bunbury boating clubs take part in the annual Blessing of the Fleet on October 25.
Boats from the Bunbury Yacht Club, Koombana Bay Sailing Club, the Dolphin Discovery Centre and the two Bunbury Port Authority tug boats provided an amazing display from vantage points around Bunbury as they were officially blessed sailing by Barbados on the Marlston Waterfront.
The procession started from the Bunbury Yacht Club in the Leschenault Inlet and travelled under the Plug into Koombana Bay where it was joined by sailing club vessels and the Dolphin Discovery Centre boats before proceeding to the shipping channel where the tug boats sprayed large jets of water across the bay.
The procession then returned to the waters in front of Barbados to be officially blessed and headed out into Koombana Bay before dispersing.
Bunbury Yacht Club Commodore Noel Seymour said while the event had been held every year, this was the first year that Bunbury boating clubs had got together to plan a joint event to provide the town with a colourful water spectacle.
Sailing club Commodore Stuart Thompson said the flotilla demonstrated Bunbury people's love of boating and living an enviable lifestyle in a city surrounded by three waters.
"The Blessing of the Fleet is a celebration of our great lifestyle on the water and a fantastic way to mark the start of the summer boating and sailing season," Mr Thompson said.
