LOCAL TALENT: At the end of June, 19 music students from Bunbury Catholic College will join students from all over the world to perform in the 26th annual Australian International Music Festival.
One of the performance venues includes the largest cathedral in the southern hemisphere.
Another highlight of the trip will be when they perform at the Sydney Opera House.
Bunbury Catholic College’s head of music Melissa Mitchell, who has taken her music students on trips all over the world, said it was a great opportunity for the students to experience cultural exchange.
The jazz band will play a range of songs including a few Australian works and the choir will join more than 1000 students at St Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney.
“We will play a range of songs including 400 seasons in commemoration of the Anzacs,” Ms Mitchell said.
“The group is about engaging in cultural exchanges with other schools and is a great opportunity for students to interact with people from around the globe.”
They are the only West Australian school to attend the festival and a lot of hard work and hours of rehearsals has gone into preparing for the festival.
The students are mainly from Years 7 and 8 and for some this will be their first time on an aeroplane.
At the end of the festival students will fly to the gold coast for a post-festival trip and have a day at Dreamworld.
The Australian International Music Festival begins on June 27.
