STATE Emergency Service volunteers responded to 17 call-outs after a tornado cut a line of damage through Usher on Saturday night, August 29.
Homes in a narrow strip from Ocean Drive to Usher were in the firing line, with damage ranging from loose tiles and ridge capping coming off to windows blown out.
Some residents lost half their roof in the wild weather.
Bunbury SES deputy manager Kevin Regan said volunteers came from Australind and Collie to help with the repairs which they managed to get under control before midnight on Saturday.
Mr Regan said some of the call-outs could have been prevented if residents had prepared their homes for stormy weather.
“We see a lot of blocked gutters as well as loose objects around the home that become projectiles in a storm,” Mr Regan said.
“It’s important to take measures to make sure your home is safe to stop preventable damage.”
If your home or property has significant damage call the SES on 132 500.
