POLICE are urging home owners and renters to be vigilant with security following a number of preventable break-ins around Bunbury.
The warning comes after a robbery on October 2 around 3am on Minninup Road in Withers when a female resident was woken by a noise in her house.
Bunbury Police Officer in Charge Senior Sergeant Mal Jones said the woman woke to see a male.
He said police were now searching for a slim-built male with curly hair tied up in a pony tail, possibly with a small moustache and wearing dark clothing.
He was described as 5’8” to 5’10” tall.
It was believed the offender gained entry to the house through an unlocked window.
Senior Sergeant Jones said the woman confronted the man in the house before he escaped by a window in a rear room with two laptop computers.
“Coming in to summer, an open window is too easy for people to gain entry to your home,” he said.
“You can buy security locks that allow you to open and lock certain windows and doors to a certain degree where a person can’t get in but airflow can still get into the room.
“For people in rental properties, there are strict security measures as to what landlords have to apply so if you’re in a rental, approach your property manager and upgrade your security as it can save you a lot of grief and fear.”
