A SOUTH Bunbury female teacher has been charged with five counts of being a person in authority who indecently dealt with a child at a Greater Bunbury school.
The offences relate to a 16-year-old female student and occurred between September 2014 and present.
Department of Education executive director, professional standards and conduct Eamon Ryan said a section 240 notice was served on the woman last week while schools were still on holiday.
Section 240 of the Schools Education Act gives the power to order an employee away from schools if there is reason to believe they have committed a breach of discipline.
"The teacher has been formally stood down and banned from all schools under section 240 of the Schools Education Act, while this matter is ongoing," he said.
"As this is a police matter and now before the courts, we will not make any further comment."
The female teacher will face Bunbury Magistrates Court on November 2.
