FAMILY members of two Golden Bay surfers missing in Mexico have asked for privacy amid growing fears for the men’s safety.
Dean Lucas and Adam Coleman have not made contact with friends or family for more than a week.
The last confirmed sighting of the pair was at 10pm on November 21 when they disembarked a ferry at Topolobampa.
Dean and Adam were supposed to drive to Guadalajara the next day, but they never arrived.
Mexican news outlets have since reported the discovery of a burnt-out Chevy van matching the description of the men’s van in Navolato – one of the country’s most dangerous places.
From Topolobampo, Navolato lies on the route to Guadalajara.
At this stage there has been no confirmation bodies found in the van were those of Dean and Adam, and family members are clinging to hope their loved ones will be found alive.
The partner of one of the missing men will fly to Mexico on Sunday in a search for answers from authorities.
“Their family and I are devastated,” Josie Cox said.
“We thank everyone for their kind messages and efforts to find our boys.”
The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of the situation and is liaising with the men’s families.
