CLOSE to $3000 was raised for the Yarloop fire victims at Halls Head Bowling and Recreation Club on Wednesday.
The charity event was held after the Yarloop Bowling Club was unable to host their scheduled event on the day with Halls Head offering their facilities for the fixture.
Following the day’s play, which featured 44 teams and 132 players, Yarloop Bowling Club president Ron Sackville accepted cheques totalling $2726 from Halls Head president Kevin Lobb.
The proceeds were raised by the Halls Head club through green fees, a monster raffle, players’ lunches and bar sales.
A $500 donation was also made by the Murray District Bowling League presented by MDBL president Robert Plater.
An additional $1430 had earlier been raised by the Halls Head club to be donated through Bowls WA to the Yarloop District Fire Relief Fund
Sackville, on accepting the funds, said while the town of Yarloop suffered a tragic setback, the generosity of the bowling community and Western Australian public was a great stimulus for those affected by the fire to rebuild for the future.
Halls Head event organisers Max Hughes and Bob Williams thanked the businesses and individuals who generously contributed in raising the funds.
The winning team on the day was Dude and Laurie McCarthy and Graham Farmer from Mandurah Bowling Club.
