TODAY was just the start of an exciting journey to develop Bunbury's waterfront, as civil works began at Koombana Bay North.
Lands Minister Terry Redman said it was one of five lots to be delivered by Landcorp.
Queensland-based developer Austpro Management Services will develop a six story building, including retail space and 14 residential apartments on the upper five stories on the 1150 square meter land lot.
Picton-based APH Contractors was awarded the tender which will see 120 employees and sub-contractors carry out the civil works, drainage and landscaping phase.
“What’s significant about this is that we are activating a centre in Bunbury commensurate with the best we see in the metropolitan area,” Mr Redman said.
“You wouldn’t have a company from Queensland investing here if they didn’t think it was going to fly.
“By the middle of this year they will be given a set of titles for the site.”
Civil works will be finished by the middle of the year followed by, final payments and allocated titles, Mr Redman said.
Bunbury MLA John Castrilli said the start of civil works at Koombana North would boost the local economy.
The $3.5million works form part of the first stage of the waterfront project and will enable the development of world-class, multi-purpose buildings at the site overlooking Koombana Bay.
“The Bunbury Waterfront project is of prime importance to the city and I am very pleased to see the civil works underway,” Mr Castrilli said.
“Importantly, this phase of the project will help keep local people in local jobs, which benefits the Bunbury and wider economies.”
