Two environmental soldiers from the Green Army have recently commenced environmental conservation work on project sites dotted throughout the South West.
The South West Catchments Council was successful in the Australian Government’s round four Green Army submission with three projects that bring together a consortium of South West project partners.
Team Leader for Bunbury, Johnny Prefumo and team leader for Busselton, Celeste Lymn are managing the teams of local 17 to 24 year olds keen to work towards protecting and enhancing the South West environment.
Mr Prefumo said they were thrilled to be working with a group of enthusiastic volunteers.
“We are so pleased with our teams, the range of conservation activities and experiences they’ll be exposed to is fantastic,” he said.
The teams will be involved with planting, mulching, weed control, flora surveys, plant propagation, walk trail maintenance, signage installation and vital phytophthora die-back treatments.
In tandem with on-ground works, the participants will complete TAFE units in Conservation and Land Management and spend time working at two local community (plant) nurseries.
The Green Army teams will work at sites located around Greenbushes, Bunbury, Roelands, Dunsborough and Margaret River.
