The first edition of the South West Creative Directory was officially launched at Riversmith on Friday, with local creatives and visitors from around the state keen to check out the cream of the crop in the South West.
At the CinefestOZ Sidebar event, Filmmakers of the Future, Creative Corner executive officer Niomi O’Hara said the project was a valuable step towards further establishing the South West as a hive of creativity and innovation.
“A lot of time and hard work has gone into creating this directory, and it really shows the calibre of talent we have to offer in this region,” Ms O’Hara said.
The colourful free directory has been made available in hardcopy and online on the Creative Corner website.
The whole experience gives us an opportunity to network with other creatives.
- Ashleigh Nicolau, Director
“The South West is a wealth of creative talent and the directory brings together 70 of the region’s creative businesses, practitioners and entrepreneurs in one stunning publication.”
Also guest speaking at the sellout event was Adam Smith of Screenwest, who highlighted the importance of having information in one place, and easily accessible to make the region more viable and accommodating for film makers.
Audience members were treated to a screening of three films, The Department, Viva La Vincent and Outline.
Director of the quirky documentary Viva La Vincent, Ashleigh Nicolau said the event was an exciting opportunity for young creatives including filmmakers, writers and directors who are keen to develop their skills and network with like minded and creative individuals.
"Not only do we now have the chance to screen the films to new audiences and get that instant response, but the whole experience gives us an opportunity to network with other creatives and learn from that,” Ms Nicolau said.
With assistance from the South West Development Commission and Regional Development Australia the first edition of the Creative Directory will be free and widely circulated across Western Australia, making it the best point of reference for sourcing local creative talent.
The directory includes information on a range of industry specialists operating in the South West including photographers, filmmakers, designers, illustrators, and marketers.
