Completing year 12 is a battle for most students but when Tayla Donohoe graduates in November, her achievement will bring plenty of pride and satisfaction to the end of a particularly difficult year.
The young Manea Senior College student has spent her last year at high school dealing with the fact her family lost their home in Yarloop in January’s bushfire.
Her family had moved to the small South West town 15 years ago after fire destroyed their home in Mandurah.
“It’s been a tough year for sure,” Ms Donohoe said. “But I’ve just tried to keep smiling and getting everything done.”
Alongside her studies, Ms Donohoe has been working part time and participating in the Sports Education and Development Australia program which gives senior students the chance to coach sports programs in local schools such as Harvey Primary School.
Ms Donohoe hopes to study physical education teaching at Murdoch University in 2017, noting she would like to keep making children feel better about themselves through sport.
