The award-winning pipes and drummers of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards are making their way to Bunbury to take the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on a musical journey.
The new role of Light Cavalry is at the forefront of the British Army’s organisation, primarily as a mounted combat unit, but also working alongside other armies around the world.
Captain Alexander Steward said the group have a rich history that extended back to their formation in 1678.
“The Guards are Scotland’s most senior and only regular cavalry regiment especially in the ‘70s when we hit number one on the charts with Amazing Grace,” he said.
Cpt Stewart said the even though the group were musicians, they were first and foremost soldiers for the British Armed Forces.
“It’s difficult to tee everyone up because we are soldiers and often stationed around the world and we have expectations set by the British Army to meet,” he said.
“But it’s nice to be able to do something that’s not the normal role we fill, plus we get to travel the world and see some amazing things.
“So getting to go on a massive tour around Australia like this one can be a bit of challenge to organise, but we’ve managed to make it work and we’re all to excited to get down to Australia.”
The group will be getting to Bunbury on November 6, where they will be playing the classics like Amazing Grace and breaking out some more modern tunes for audiences.
