Save the date October 8 in your diary for the annual Waroona Show is just around the corner.
The Waroona Show, in its 86th year, attracts thousands of people to Waroona each year and is a significant event in the Peel region.
The event which features trade and animal shows, competitive events, rides and amusements has built its reputation for being one of the biggest and best country shows in WA.
Waroona Agricultural Society president Maree Ellis said volunteers had been working hard since February to bring the show together with many young members putting up their hands to help.
Ms Ellis said patronage at the Waroona Show had grown substantially over the past few years and she hopes this year is no different.
“We have more than 140 trade stalls, wine and food, displays of vintage machinery and a wonderful array of arts, crafts, cooking and photography and much, much more,” she said.
“Despite the difficult start to the year with the January bush fires, support for the show is high and we are once again expecting a bumper crowd.”
Ms Ellis said the show would incorporate a new competitive event – The Tug of War.
“We are inviting all sporting and community groups, local businesses and services to settle old scores or to claim eternal bragging rights in this ancient sport,” she said.
“The origins of tug of war are shrouded in mystery but at least one thing is certain, there will be lots of fun to be had by all with winners cheered and losers booed.
“Plus, there is a huge trophy for the winners to gloat over.”
The Waroona Show is also proud to host the National Farriers and Blacksmiths Championships in the Marchetti Shed which will commence on Thursday, October 6.
Entertainment includes bands, roving performers, dancing, fashion parade, cooking demonstration, fireworks and children’s workshops.
Gates open to the public from 8am and general admission tickets cost $15 while tickets for children and aged pensioners costs $10.
The event will be held on Millar Street off the South Western Highway on October 8.
