Bunbury Moorabinda Croquet Centre member Jannine Hawker has returned to Bunbury after a victorious trip to the eastern states to play association croquet.
Hawker was invited to play in the Jean Armstrong Memorial Shield in Adelaide alongside the top 16 women players in Australasia.
She won the tournament with a record-equaling three triple peels. This feat, which ranks with a golfing hole-in-one but with more concentration over a longer period, has only been achieved by one other player in the history of that tournament.
After her success in Adelaide she travelled on to Melbourne to contest the Australian Croquet Association’s President’s Eights.
Hawker was invited to play in the open competition and finished runner-up in her block. From never having played competitive sport before trying croquet, her rise to international standard has been meteoric.
She has won numerous competitions from club level through to state and national and was a quarter-finalist in last year’s women’s world championships in the UK.
Hawker is also in the running to be selected for the Australian team which will play New Zealand next year.
