The Bunbury Wildlife Park lost a furry friend on Tuesday when Wombles the Wombat was sadly put to sleep after battling illness.
Wombles was a much-loved member of the wildlife park family and will be sorely missed by staff and the community.
Originally from South Australia, the cheeky wombat had called the wombat home for about six years and was a popular attraction for park visitors.
Being a nocturnal animal, Wombles would spend the daytime hours snoozing and would become active in the evenings when she would wander about her den and have a bit to eat.
Wombles, like all common wombats, was an herbivore and enjoyed snacking on grass and plant matter.
Park acting manager Lucy Wiseman said it was a very sad time for the park and the community who had gotten to know Wombles.
“Wombles was a part of the park family and we were heartbroken to have to say goodbye,” Mrs Wiseman said.
“She was very popular amongst visitors and I know the community will be as devastated as we are.”
