It's a funny job being a volunteer for Radio Lollipop.
One minute you can be doing a bit of face painting on one of the wards, and the next minute you are in the emergency department blowing bubbles to distract a traumatised child who hates needles, and who urgently needs an injection.
For over 30 years Radio Lollipop has done one of the hardest jobs in medicine - making sick kids happy.
It's something Kristi Clarke and the rest of the Lollipop team is very proud of, and something which is going to carry on when Princess Margaret Hospital finally closes it doors.
"We have been preparing for the move to the new Perth Children's Hospital for over four years. Our new desk has been shipped in from the UK and it should be in place next month," says Kristi.
Radio Lollipop has around 100 volunteers who work at PMH and all of them are set to switch over to the new hospital.
"On the day that the first patients are transferred from PMH we will be there, bringing a bit of fun for all those children who really don't have much to laugh about."
Radio Lollipop is important for the new children's hospital. It was part of the plans from the very beginning of the planning process.
"We were allocated a broadcast studio and an office at the very beginning. It will be the same set up as we've got at PMH, only with brand new equipment," said Kristi.
Radio Lollipop was set up in Princess Margaret Hospital in 1985. It was the first "Lollipop" to be established outside the UK and it's been broadcasting ever since.
Currently there are eight Radio Lollipops in WA: at PMH, Joondalup, St John of God, Murdoch, Fremantle, Armadale, Rockingham, Midland and Kalgoorlie.
Depending on the type of hospital the local Radio Lollipops have different live broadcasting times. At PMH the live broadcasts are in the evenings because that's when things slow down on the wards and time hangs heavy for sick children and their mums and dads.
"We do all sorts of things. Spend time with kids on the wards. If they are walking wounded we bring some of them into the studio. If they're in wheelchairs or even unable to get out of bed we can wheel them into the studio.
"And if they are too sick to leave the ward they can phone in and request a song or just have a chat on the radio. And we can't do any of that without our volunteers."
The volunteers have to commit to two-and-a-half hours a week. For some of them it's become a life-long commitment.
"Some have been with us for 20 years," said Kristi. "We've even had volunteers who ended up marrying other volunteers after meeting on the wards of PMH.
"It's an amazing experience. Even if you have had the worst day at work coming into Lollipop for a shift is the best thing you can do. Soon you have forgotten all your own problems as you try to bring a smile to a sick child.
"You get a different perspective on life as a Radio Lollipop volunteer."
Kristi and the Lollipop team are grateful to all their supporters and fundraisers who have managed to put together around $350,000 for the move to the new hospital.
"There are so many groups, companies and individuals who support us it would be impossible to mention them all, but the Perth Arena has been amazing, as has the police charity Bright Blue who organise a sponsored cycle along the Gibb River Road.
"We couldn't function without our volunteers and our volunteers would have nothing to work with without our sponsors and supporters big and small."
