A Bunbury education assistant who has dedicated her career to supporting educators of disabled children has been honoured at the 2016 WA Education Awards.
Stephanie Lee from College Row School was awarded WA Education Assistant of the Year for supporting educators for 20 years of her life and showing students they are capable of more than anyone ever dreamed possible.
Ms Lee was one of four finalists and was announced the winner on Monday morning at a breakfast where she was awarded $25,000 for professional development.
Ms Lee said she felt humbled to be honoured in this way by her colleagues and the challenge of every day keeps her on her toes.
“I never know from one day to the next what’s going to happen, I come thinking it might be a quiet day and it becomes anything but quiet, there’s always something new going on so it keeps a nice balance in my life.”
“I knew I had a good chance at winning but I was still slightly stunned when it was announced I had won, it feels good to be acknowledged for the hard work I and others put in.
“I appreciate the education department putting the time into ensuring this award is available and educators dedication is recognised.”
Ms Lee’s latest project with the students involves the development of a pod book with images for each child to help them express themselves which she hopes will give the students a voice.
