They are so in demand that even Arnold Schwarzenegger in Jingle All The Way would struggle to snatch one at a toy store in Perth.
But there's plenty available online ... for a price.
Hatchimals are one of the 'must have' Christmas toys this holiday season - an egg that hatches an interactive electronic creature after kids rub the shell.
Once they're hatched, children can raise them through three life stages and teach them to walk, play games and even dance.
With stocks running low across Perth and Australia, parents are getting desperate to lay their hands on the toy and looking online for resales.
But though the toy usually retails for around $70, Hatchimals are being listed for up to $500 online in Perth, prompting outrage from parents.
Perth mum Samantha Streich took to ocial media to express her disgust at the expensive re-sale of the toys.
"Wow. Do people not feel bad selling a toy for five times its value in the shops. I get that it's an opportunity to make money but it's Christmas. I'm so glad my kids don't want these."
While another mother, Rebecca Ulrich, said: "Sweet mother of mercy, I wish my children never heard about these stupid Hatchimals. They are going to be the death of me I swear."
In days of Christmas past other toys have kindled similar frenzies - Tamagotchies, Furbies and Transformers to name just a few.
So if your kids miss out, don't worry, there's always next year... and most of them prefer playing with the box anyway.
