The Nationals WA announced on Monday that they will commit $15 million of Royalties for Regions funding to the construction of the Boyanup Saleyards should they win government at this weekend’s state election.
Minister for regional development Terry Redman and Nationals candidate for Collie-Preston Monique Warnock said the multi-faceted facility would handle the sale of more than 70,000 beef annually and had the potential to attract associated industries which would benefit from co-location.
"This secures the final piece of the state’s saleyard strategy that we've already invested in, in Muchea, Katanning and Mt Barker,” Mr Redman said.
Mr Redman instructed the South West Development Commission to undertake the land capability assessment process for site options in September 2016.
Ms Warnock said the announcement would give the livestock industry including dairy and beef cattle, confidence to invest and grow into the future.
“This facility will be key to unlocking the growth of WA's beef supply chain and will deliver significant flow on benefits to South West communities,” Ms Warnock said.
Ms Warnock said the $15 million announcement would complement The Nationals $277 million commitment to agriculture.
“This commitment includes $40 million to establish and develop an animal research institute in WA,” she said.
