The seat of Bunbury has again shown itself to be the bellwether with Labor’s Don Punch claiming victory in Saturday’s state election.
The former South West Development Commission chief executive officer accepted the triumph on a night where WA Labor enjoyed a massive favourable swing.
Mr McGowan and Mr Punch put together a $100 million plan for Bunbury for the next four years that they will now be able to roll out with a clear mandate.
Included in the WA Labor Plan for Bunbury was;
- Complete stages 1 and 2 of the Transforming Bunbury Waterfront project and fast-tracking stage 3
- Create a dedicated cruise ship berth
- Allocate $200,000 to the City of Bunbury to develop a suitable entry statement
- Invest $20m to upgrade Bunbury Regional Hospital to 200 beds
- Guarantee the delivery of a new Step Up Step Down mental health facility
- Provide an additional no stop rail service between Bunbury and Perth
- Build a new police station in Capel to service Capel and Dalyellup
- Allocate $200,000 to the Bunbury Bowling Club for improved disability access
- Allocate $300,000 towards an interim facility for the Dalyellup Surf Life Saving Club
- Build a new canteen and home economics facility at Bunbury Senior High School
- Build a new Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths Centre at Newton Moore Senior High School
Mr Punch was joined by party faithful at Bunbury Bowling Club on Saturday night and said it was a fantastic night for Bunbury and WA Labor.
“It’s a great night for Western Power, our jobs and our youth,” he said.
“I think we are in a great position to deliver our plan for Bunbury and we will start from day one.”
Mr Punch said the government he will now join will stay connected to the community and be a government for the people.
