The Kalgoorlie seat is too close to call, with Nationals Tony Crook, Labor's Darren Forster and Liberals' Kyran O'Donnell neck and neck in the race for the Goldfields.
Speaking to WAtoday this morning, Crook said all three opponents were close on primary votes and the winner would be decided on preferences.
"All of the tickets were preferences against me, so I am hoping people haven't followed their cards. One booth in particular I got a really strong preference flow, but not a lot of votes, which is the problem," he said.
"I think there are three pretty credible candidates. Darren Forster has run a pretty good campaign, the Liberal candidate has run a good campaign and we have run a pretty good campaign as well."
Forster said "all the old political figures" thought it would be a two horse race between the Nationals and Liberals.
"With really limited resources and someone that had never done it before, we worked as hard as we could and what will be will be. If nothing else we will certainly give them the fright of their life", said Forster.
"I mean Kalgoorlie often doesn't just flow with the rest of the state. It makes its own mind up politically."
Nationals MP Wendy Duncan held the seat from 2013 but she announced her retirement prior to the election.
