Premier Mark McGowan has presented two Bunbury police officer with Emergency Service awards on Friday.
Constables Jeremy Forster and Kurt McKain rescued a 30-year-old woman who was reported to have failed to return from a swim at Koombana Bay in January 2016.
The officers could just see her in the dimming light, and immediately entered the water and swam several hundred metres to reach the woman who was by then slipping under the water.
The lady was returned to the beach not breathing and the officers administers CPR until a St John Ambulance crew arrived.
The woman was transported to Bunbury Regional Hospital and later released having made a full recovery.
Bunbury Police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Mal Jones said without the decisive action taken by the officers after arriving on the scene, the outcome could have been very different.
For their bravery, the officers were recognised with coastal bravery award silver medallions.
