Bunbury Senior High School have donated six full boxes of cans and non-perishable foods to the Bunbury Leschenault Rotary Club for the Give a Damn, Give a Can Appeal.
Prefects and student leaders encouraged and collected the cans every morning for home rooms for two weeks for the appeal, allocating house points for every can brought in to spur on students to donate.
Bunbury SHS chaplain Deon Throne said he was very pleased with how the school community have responded to the yearly appeal from Rotary.
The food will be distributed to the Salvation Army, the In Town Lunch Centre and St Vincent de Paul where they will be made into hampers designed to supply a week worth of food.
Last years efforts collected 15,000 cans of food and while it got those needing a little help through the winter, with the current economic climate, the number of struggling Bunbury families is expected to be higher than ever this year.
