A West Australian Olympic rower and Olympic coach are heading to the South West to spread a message of inspiration to school students at Australind Senior High School and Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School on Friday.
Rhys Grant, the first Olympic single sculler to come from WA, finished ninth at the 2016 Rio Olympics after being the only Australian rower to achieve a late qualification to the games at the ‘Regatta of Death’ at Lucerne, Switzerland in May 2016.
Joining Grant for the visit will be current Guildford Grammar School head coach Tony Lovrich, who is a former WA Olympian and Olympic coach.
The pair will speak to students about their careers, what drives them to succeed and pit themselves against students over 100 metres on a rowing ergometer.
Rowing WA chief executive officer Daniel Tackenberg said the regional development program was an important as it encouraged greater participation in rowing as well as continuing to develop the pipeline of future Olympians into the sport.
Bunbury Rowing Club will also benefit from an on water coaching session while the pair are in town.
