Residents who commit to holding off on the fertiliser until spring will go in the draw to win a $20 Bunnings voucher.
As part of the Save the Crabs, Then eat Them winter campaign, residents can show their commitment by displaying Crab Friendly Garden signs and bin stickers in their front yards, available from Bunbury Bunnings.
Campaign manager Sarah Molloy said residents’ showing their support for the campaign offers a number of benefits.
“By pledging your commitment to hold off on the fertiliser till spring, not only are you supporting the Blue Swimmer Crab and his mates, you are also saving yourself time and money,” she said.
“Our lawns and gardens generally grow during the warmer months, making them unable to absorb nutrients in winter.
“Unfortunately, most of the fertiliser applied at this time ends up in our waterways.”
To go in the draw, residents need to post a ‘selfie’ on the Home River Ocean Facebook page, or tag @homeriverocean in their post. For more information visit savethecrabs.com.au
