High number of debtors revealed in Bunbury

The Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA) recently released regional personal insolvency and business-related personal insolvency statistics for the June quarter this year.

More than 7700 debtors entered a new personal insolvency in the time period throughout Australia, a fall of 311 debtors, or 3.9 per cent compared to the March 2017 quarter statistics.

Western Australia boasted a 2.5 per cent decrease in new debtors however there were still 921 in total across the state. More than 22 per cent of these were new debtors with a business-related personal insolvency.

Of the new cases across the state, 161 were debtors from regional areas with Bunbury recording 43 debtors for the June 2017 quarter, the highest in regional WA.

Eleven of these debtors entered a new business-related personal insolvency, with 37 being entered in total in regional WA. AFSA reported this as a fall of 22.9 per cent from the previous quarter.

Across Bunbury, there are now 61.5 debtors per 100,000 persons aged 18 years and older who have declared personal insolvency – again, the highest rate across regional WA.

The north Wheatbelt came in second but well and truly behind Bunbury with 21 cases of personal insolvency last quarter, followed by Augusta, Margaret River and Busselton with 18, the Mid West with 18 and the Pilbara region with 18 as well.

At the top of the list for the Greater Perth area, Wanneroo had 86 debtors, Rockingham had 77 and the Swan region had 74 for the June 2017 quarter.
