A huge crowd of skaters and bike riders braved unfavourable recent weather to attend the opening of the Australind Skate Park.
Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke attended to present the Shire of Harvey with a cheque for $100,000 to assist in the building of amenities for the park.
Collie-Preston MLA and minister for sport and recreation Mick Murray then formally opened the park with the assistance of Harvey Shire President Tania Jackson.
The project was funded by the Shire of Harvey, the Department of Sport and Recreation, Lotterywest, Alcoa, JAK Civil, Lake Preston Lime, public donations and community fundraising activities by the Australind Skate Park committee.
Freestyle Now held competitions during the day and when the weather cleared, gave inspiring demonstrations and held workshops for the scooters, skate boards and bikes.
Lots of great prizes were given away by Freestyle Now owner Shaun Jarvis while volunteers from the Lions Club of Australind helped by cooking a free sausage sizzle.
