Manea Senior College health students learn medical skills from trainee doctors

The doctors, nurses and paramedics of the future all joined a medical clinical skills training day at Manea Senior College on Tuesday morning.

The college’s health and medical specialist students joined Certificate III basic health, Certificate III allied health and Certificate IV nursing students for the skills session.

Trainee doctors from the University of Western Australia and Notre Dame University who are completing a year of hands-on medical training in a rural setting, joined St John Ambulance trainer Lorraine Guest to teach the young students some of what they have learned so far.

Key skills covered during the session included child birth, suturing, inserting an IV cannula and bracing a fractured leg.

Mrs Guest said the day was an excellent partnership, giving the trainee doctors a chance to share their knowledge while the students from Manea got an insight into the various health industry roles they may like to pursue after high school.
