Bunbury’s world-class athletics track will play host to country WA’s brightest young sports stars when the 2018 Little Athletics WA state country championships hit Hay Park from January 26 to 28.
The event will feature about 500 junior athletes aged between five and 16 and attract visitors from as far afield as Broome, Geraldton, Esperance, the Goldfields and Albany.
The City of Bunbury has thrown its support behind the event, along with the Bunbury and Districts Little Athletics Centre, which calls the Hay Park arena home.
Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said it was one of many events that would provide significant social and economic benefits for the City.
“It is fantastic that major sporting events such as this are held in Bunbury,” Mr Brennan said.
“Bunbury has long been recognised as a major sporting hub and this event will bring families from far and wide who will either re-discover our City or experience all it has to offer for the first time.”
The state country championships is just one of a host of activities that continue to entrench Bunbury as a popular location for major events.
These include the Action Sports Games, Bunbury City Classic Triathlon, BMX Australia National Championships and Australian Beach Games state championships, all of which are coming our way soon.
