Theatre extravaganza Coal Miner’s Daughter looks set to draw Bunbury’s country music fans closer.
Coal Miner’s Daughter, paying tribute to country music legend Loretta Lynn, brings its collection of songs and stories to the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on Wednesday, November 22.
The show – having played to capacity crowds in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia – hits Bunbury, Mandurah and Perth during its tour of Western Australia.
Acclaimed South Australian singer-songwriter Amber Joy Poulton grapples with Lynn’s journey first-hand during each performance.
Poulton said it was an honour to perform Lynn’s collection of hits across Australia.
“Country music is in the country, so you’ve really got to go where the fans are,” she said.
“I really like the opportunity of going to all of these places and showing them what we love to do and hope they enjoy it as much as we love doing it.”
Coal Miner’s Daughter chronicles Lynn’s journey from nobody to becoming the first Queen of Country and first female Entertainer of the Year.
The tale explores how Lynn handled her blossoming career, close friendship with country music icon Patsy Cline, married life and motherhood duties.
Poulton said Lynn’s dedication and cheekiness made her music impactful.
“I just love her as a person, I just she is so savvy in the way she gets her message across in her song-writing,” she said.
Poulton said the production provided fresh insight into Lynn’s professional and personal hurdles.
Alongside Poulton, the show sees Lizzie Moore portrays Cline and Denis Surmon plays Lynn’s long-time collaborator (and rumoured lover) Conway Twitty.
