A Bunbury Senior High School student has been acknowledged for her one-of-a-kind artistic vision.
Year eight student Indy Duffy won a computer art award category of the 2017 Young Australian Art and Writers’ Awards for her entry ‘Above the Sea’.
Ms Duffy travelled to Melbourne to attend the awards’ ceremony and collect the prize last month.
She said she felt elated after winning the award and travelling over east to receive it.
The 14-year-old had originally been accepted into the school’s arts program.
She first got into 3D digital art earlier this year, with YouTube videos helping her through the process.
“I’ve been doing art ever since I can remember, it was just one of those things I was really good at,” she said.
“I started drawing digitally because it was new and I thought it was cool, and I wanted to get into animation as well. Drawing digitally takes a lot less time than drawing traditionally.”
The student, spurred on by her teachers, then submitted some of her works into the competition.
Ms Duffy described art as being about freedom of expression, allowing her to express everything in her imagination.
She dreams of developing visual effects for movies and video games.
Ms Duffy said any student looking to take up art should not be afraid to try new things.
Her nan, Gena McLean, said Indy had been drawing since before pre-school and had always been a good artist.
Ms McLean also said the family was extremely proud of Indy’s efforts.
