City of Bunbury council and WA ISports representatives came together this week to promote inclusivity in the region.
Councillors, City employees and WA ISports members participated in bocce at the council headquarters.
WA ISports athletes shared their knowledge of bocce with City staff.
The event was in support of International Day of People with Disability.
WA ISports chair Allison Burnett explained how the City of Bunbury had approached the organisation to hold activities in town.
Ms Burnett noted the activities were designed to be inclusive and accessible.
She said the City’s staff had a firm understanding of disability in the community.
Community development team leader Deanna Sullivan gave instructions on how to play bocce in Dutch.
The move was designed to place everyone in the position of finding difficulty understanding instructions.
City of Bunbury councillor Betty McCleary praised the council for taking time to recognise and acknowledge people with disability in the community.
“The staff’s involvement promoted inclusivity and it makes me proud to be a part of the community,” she said.
This year marked the 25th anniversary since the United Nations instigated the IDPwD.
