In an effort to provide more jobs in WA’s energy sector, Western Power has announced 20 scholarships with Southern Regional TAFEs.
Young people who are looking to kickstart a career in the energy sector are encouraged to apply for one of the pre-apprenticeship electrotechnology scholarships.
Member for Bunbury Don Punch said the government was committed to generating real opportunities in the regions for training and for jobs, with the announcement demonstrating that.
“The announcement of Western Power scholarships being offered through South Regional TAFE is fantastic news for young people in Bunbury interested in an electrical trades career,” he said.
“These scholarship are a great opportunity for people to be trained in Bunbury and become the future skilled workers we need to drive growth.
“I encourage any young person looking for a head start in a career as a tradesman to apply for one of the scholarships on offer.”
South Regional TAFE managing director Duncan Anderson said it was fantastic to have Western Power supporting students in this way.
“The Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) Pre-apprenticeship enables students to kick start their career in an electrical trade,” he said.
“This is the second time Western Power have supported this scholarship program so it is wonderful to see it continue in 2018.
“The students who received the scholarships in 2017 were extremely grateful for the support and the financial help the scholarships provided.
“I look forward to presenting the 2018 scholarships with Western Power.
“I’d like to thank Western Power for their ongoing generous commitment to our students.”
Energy Minister Ben Wyatt said it was a terrific opportunity for those living in the regions who were looking at a career in the energy sector.
“The McGowan Government has always had a strong focus on real training, which leads to real jobs, and these scholarships are a great symbol of that commitment,” he said.
“I encourage all interested parties to complete their application in order to have the best chance of securing one of these tremendous opportunities.”
The scholarships are available in Bunbury in Albany and form part of the governments commitment to provide more jobs in regional WA.
The scholarships will be full fee paying and applications for Semester 1, 2018 are now open.
