The Bunbury Riding Develops Abilities hub has called for increased sponsorship and funding support for 2018.
The RDA has reached out to corporate bodies to assist with the club’s insurance, feed, and animal care costs and confirmed it needed a minimum of $30,000 per year to keep its operations going.
RDA coach Julie Down said they also needed more volunteers to assist with rides and maintenance.
Ms Down said the opportunity would be suited to students taking a gap year.
“If they are thinking of going into teaching or any of those sorts of classes, this would be a great way for them to test the waters,” she said.
The group holds rides four times a day on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays each week.
Rides typically feature four to five riders as well as leaders, teachers, education assistants, RDA volunteers and coaches.
The group was also looking for a new horse – up to a 14-hand pony aged 10 or above – to assist their clientele.
“For the smaller riders, it would be nicer for them if they were on a smaller horse,” she said.
“If people have got some horses out in the paddocks that are surplus, we ask for the owners to come and try them.
“Not every horse can cope with this...because they have got people walking around them, a lot of horses don’t like to be crammed and it’s pressure on the horse.”
