The highly-anticipated facility was announced in June 2011 when the state government committed $5 million in Royalties for Regions funding to the project.
The state-of-the-art eight bed unit will be complemented by a cardiac angiography suite and a dedicated ambulance entrance.
The facility is one part of a $35.9 million redevelopment of St John of God Bunbury Hospital which will also include a comprehensive cancer centre and an expanded renal dialysis unit.
An expanded emergency department and intensive care unit at Bunbury Regional Hospital is also underway.
Hospital community engagement manager Irene Burlein said each year, thousands of South West residents were hospitalised in Perth for acute cardiac conditions, or have to travel to Perth to undergo cardiac angiography.
She said the new facility in Bunbury would enable public and private patients to access quality care within the South West, nearer to families and support networks.
Ms Burlein said the improved facilities would have a flow-on effect in attracting new and resident medical specialists to regional West Australia and would also create local jobs for nursing, allied health and support staff.
The unit will be opened by Nationals member for the South West Colin Holt on January 30.
The comprehensive cancer centre is on track to be opened before the middle of the year.
