THE South West Highlanders Pipe Band has backed up their 2012 WA State Mini-Band championship title by winning the 2013 WA State Pipe Band Championships, held in Perth last weekend at UWA.
"The band played really well in all three events on the day, particularly the medley event," Band president and musical director Lachie Reid said.
"We were also lucky with the sunny weather as it had been raining in Perth before the competition.
"The band consists of pipers and snare, tenor and bass drum players.
"We had 15 musicians in the band playing at the competition and it's most gratifying when all the hard work and practice pays off.
"Our competition band practices each week in Perth, as we have excellent support from other bands in Perth, namely Coastal Scottish Pipe Band and Shadow Highlanders."
The Band was first formed in 1953 in Collie and has been called several names over the years, but up until recently the band was called the Bunbury and Collie Pipe Band.
However with members being from all parts of the South West and even Perth it has been renamed as the South West Highlanders Pipe Band.
The band wears the Hunting Menzies tartan.
The band and piping soloists appear in regular events throughout the South West and are always looking for learners and new players to join the ranks.
The band has access to some of the best tutors in Australia so the Band would be eager to hear from anybody that wants to learn or has previously played in pipe bands, it's never too late to partake in what you enjoy doing.
