Well it certainly was an interesting round of football in the SWFL, no one can deny that.
The round consisted of three major upsets, beginning with the last placed Harvey Bulls overcoming then fourth on the ladder (now fifth), Augusta-Margaret River by two points.
The last two rounds of football have seen AMR beaten by the two bottom sides, putting their finals hopes in serious doubt as they now only sit half a game clear of the seventh placed Bulldogs.
The second upset came in the form of Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault (ninth) claiming a one-point win over Busselton who now slump from third to fourth.
It’s the second consecutive upset the Lions have claimed in as many weeks, and fans will be wrapped to see the young group claiming a couple wins.
The third upset would have to be the game of the round however, as the Bunbury Bulldogs were able to appease all SWFL followers (apart from Eaton fans), when they put the first stain for the season upon the Boomers record.
The Bulldogs were able to conquer the titan that is Eaton by two points in a thriller and put a bit of doubt in the minds of spectators in regards to Eaton’s ability to finish a season strongly and continue on in the finals. The Boomers have gone out in straight sets the past two finals series.
However despite all the boil-over’s this week, there were two games where we observed the expected results.
Collie was able to claim a 70 point win over Donnybrook seeing them into third spot, while South Bunbury were able to move even further ahead of the competition for second spot with an 80 point dousing of Carey Park.
Carey Park now sits sixth, still equal on points with AMR, but will find it hard to play finals until they find better form.
Bunbury will also now have their eyes on finishing in the top five and if they continue to perform like they did this week, they could do some serious damage to teams in the finals.
