A Collie Eagles player has been charged after an alleged assault during a league football game which left another player with serious facial injuries according to police.
Police say the 25-year-old man and 32-year-old alleged victim were playing on opposite teams at a Collie home game on August 31 when the two were involved in a tackle.
According to South West Football League fixtures Collie played Harvey Brunswick Leschenault Lions that day.
A short time later the offender allegedly kneed the other man in the face who was assisted off the field and required medical treatment.
He has since undergone surgery to fix fractures to his face.
The matter was reported to police who investigated the incident which resulted in the Eagles player being charged with grievous bodily harm.
He will appear in the Bunbury Magistrates Court on September 27.
