On behalf of Cancer Council WA I would like to extend our congratulations and gratitude to all connected with the 11th Relay For Life Bunbury-Southwest.
The fact you achieved the highest fundraising result of any Relay event in regional WA, raising more than $464,000 and the third highest nationally for regional events is a stunning achievement.
The 17 members of the hard working organising committee did a marvellous job in staging this event.
I would like to particularly acknowledge the contribution of Jo Trench and Michael Bell who have been members of this committee for an extraordinary 10 years.
A massive thank you to all of the other amazing people involved with the event – the 91 volunteers, 92 survivors and all of the individuals who participated in the 72 teams.
My thanks to all of the team members from Summit Stars, Bulldogs, Team Aargh, We Will Walk 500 Miles and ASHS Emergency SVC Cadets, who were also the first youth team to be awarded highest fundraisers at the event.
The members of Summit Stars, who this year raised an incredible $101,000 have an astonishing record at Relay For Life Bunbury-Southwest of achieving the grand champion prize for 10 of the last 11 years.
All money raised through Relay For Life makes a huge difference in helping fund Cancer Council's critical research, prevention, education and support services.
Your contribution also helps us move closer to that day when we can live in a cancer free world.
My thanks to you all once again for your absolutely extraordinary achievement and we look forward to your support of future events.
Susan Rooney, Cancer Council WA
