IT was a sad day for the Capel shire when it lost one of its biggest community events, Capel Fest, towards the end of 2012.
Outgoing festival president Jennifer Scott told the Bunbury Mail at the time that the success of the event relied on volunteers from the community.
Mrs Scott said not enough people turned out at meetings and a committee could not be formed, which meant the festival was canned.
But the shire is set to take on the Geographe Crush Wine Exhibition which has spent the last eight years in Bunbury.
The festival will be transformed into a three-day event and should attract a huge crowd to Boyanup.
Organisers are considering rotating the event through the shires within the Geographe region, but shire leaders are keen to see it cemented as a Capel drawcard.
Hopefully this year’s event will see support come from all corners of the region so that the popular showcase can continue to flourish.
