On February 19, an elephant seal washed up onto Perth's Sorrento Beach and stayed there for several days.
A family were suprised to see this elephant seal swim up as close as two metres from them at Meelup.
Father, Rob said the animal seemed very tired and was yawning frequently.
The Department of Parks and Wildlife warned any onlookers to keep a distance of at least 30 metres from the large animal which they said could react aggressively if it felt threatened.
Elephant seals can move quickly and inflict a bite similar to a dog.
The department have told people they should should not get between the seal and the water.
